Reclaimers Online is a community based blogging network about overcoming adversity through building instruments and making music together.

The Reclaimers Community Music Project is based in Brisbane and holds regular, free workshops for people experiencing disadvantage to learn how to make musical instruments. The instruments are made very cheaply from ‘reclaimed’ materials, using only basic hand tools.

Regular participants at the workshops, make up The Reclaimers Street Orchestra, who perform folk music on their unique instruments. Through community music making, the members of The Reclaimers are overcoming personal barriers, and finding new life.

Our mission: to make community music making more accessible to everyone around the world.

Visit The Workshop

Check out some of the cheap and easy to build instruments that are being made at our Spring Hill Workshop. We build a variety of instruments that include: drums and percussion, 2-string stick-fiddles, 2-string ‘cellos’, 2-string ‘violas’, 6-string ‘Uncle Bob’ guitars, electric guitars, tin-whistles – you name it!

We can help you build a great sounding instrument from as little as $10(AU)!

Meet The Orchestra

The Reclaimers Street Orchestra is made up of regular participants at our workshops. Our members come from diverse backgrounds – but they all share a troubled past – each struggling with personal difficulties that range from emotional and anxiety problems, to homelessness and poverty. Yet through the power of music, together they are overcoming hardship and ‘reclaiming’ their lives.
